I hold my degree in pharmacy, as well as a background, and training in the use of supplements.

Dr. Oz Raspberry Ketones

Recommended Supplements for Weight Loss

Most of the time being overweight can be more than just over eating. It can be a result of over use of antibiotics in the past, such as for acne. It can also be a result of using steroids, expect to gain 5 pounds after a round of them, sometimes very necessary. The result of use is dysbiosis, an overgrowth of yeast, and fungus. Some of us end up with a vast majority of conditions, ranging from inflammation, to weight gain, increase in allergies, to auto immune disease. I am not suggesting that you never take these drugs, but know that you must replenish your intestines with beneficial bacteria. Acidophilus pearls are the recommended product for this purpose. (see my article on Irritable bowel syndrome)

Being overweight has been linked to many possibilities. Not just over eating. Other conditions include low thyroid function, food allergies, and hypoglycemia. Your food cravings, those which you binge on, will give you clues as to what is missing. Salt would imply a magnesium deficiency. Sugar, and carbohydrates, would imply hypoglycemia. Low thyroid function, might be a craving for a high fat food, a necessary co-factor for thyroid hormone production. (See my articles on these conditions)

The following supplements are also recommended for weight loss. Cycle through each one, to see which works the best for you.

Chromium Picolinate 200-600mcg per day. This supplement reduces the craving for simple carbohydrates. It also helps to regulate blood sugar, thereby stabilizing, and reducing binges. With our over processed food supply, this nutrient is not present. It also comes from the soil, that our food is grown in. If it is not present in the soil, then it is not present in our food. Notice it is stated in micrograms, not milligrams. Meaning it is only trace amounts that are needed.

Essential Fatty Acids. Help to stabilize blood sugar levels, also. This is where CLA comes into play. It is a linolenic acid, classified as an omega 6 fatty acid. They help to increase the production of prostaglandins, hormone like substances that act as chemical messengers, thereby increasing the effects of the raspberry ketones.

Essential fatty acids help to regulate hormone levels. PMS would be a good clue, that your hormones are out of balance. Cholesterol feeds estrogen, and estrogen feeds fat, so unbalanced hormones, would result in weight gain. Estrogen is what gives us, as women, our curves. Other things to consider, are high copper levels. Copper keeps estrogen high, thereby feeding fat. Avoid the following foods, until desired weight is achieved: Almonds, crab, grapes, liver, mushrooms, pecans, sunflower seeds, and walnuts. The presence of brown spots on the face, would imply that the liver has filtered too much copper. Could also be sun damage.

Choline, and inositol, help to burn fat. Both are B vitamins. Follow package directions, for dosage amounts.

Beta Glucan 3mg, 1-2 caps a day. Aides in weight loss. It binds with fat, and removes it from the body, and is excreted through feces. Derived from the cell wall of oats. (see my article on lowering cholesterol)

Keep your bowels moving. Magnesium will keep you regular, 400-500mg per day. It is the active ingredient in milk of magnesia. By being constipated, among being very uncomfortable, it allows toxins to remain in your system, thereby contributing to dysbiosis. (see my article on IBS)

B complex vitamins will keep your energy levels up. They also help you to utilize fats, instead of storing them around the waist, or in your arteries. Replace those bad fats with good ones, such as coconut oil, or olive oil. The bad fats are hydrogenated fats, which is any fat that remains solid at room temperature. Some examples are margarine, and most cooking oils, such as shortening. For this reason, avoid deep fried foods. Broiling is a better option. Good fats are actually what your body is craving. Coconut oil, and butter are better choices, for cooking.

Give up all white foods. White bread, white rice, white pasta, and white sugar. All turn into sugar, and are stored as fat. Whole grains contain chromium, and the omegas, they stay with you longer, thereby reducing cravings. Carbohydrates always trigger the release of insulin, the good fats, and protein do not. Slowly, reduce carbohydrate consumption, over time the cravings will stop, if you give your body what it needs. This is why crash diets do not work. We abstain from carbs, then binge on them, only to deem ourselves as weak. This is not true. They are very addicting, and you may experience withdrawals, go slow. This would be an indication of hypoglycemia. Grab a high protein snack instead. Have nuts, and seeds on hand. A protein, and a fat, will not trigger an insulin spike. (See my recipes for healthier substitutions on dishes you already eat.)

Drink ten, eight ounce glasses of water. If the stomach is full of liquid, you will eat less. Lemon water has also been said to help maximize weight loss. Squeeze a half of a lemon in a glass of water, before drinking.

Your decision to lose weight, will be based on choices. Whether it's the food, the supplements, or the exercise program, make good, informed choices.

Holistic medicine is about balance. Nutrition, exercise, filtered water, and fresh air will aide in weight loss. Correcting imbalances, through supplements, will also help.

Excerpt from Medline Plus: Clinical Trial on Raspberry Ketones

Abstract:

Raspberry ketone (RK) is a natural phenolic compound of the red raspberry. The dietary administration of RK to male mice has been reported to prevent high-fat diet-induced elevation in body weight and to increase lipolysis in white adipocytes.

Why Women Gain Weight, More Than Men

New information about Depression

Women Produce 30% less serotonin than men. Researchers don't know if it's hormones, or the lack of protein in our diet. That is why we are more prone to depression than men. This may also be why we crave carbs, and gain weight. Many carbohydrates in there whole form contain trytophan, and due to our over processed food supply, we are not getting what we need. Eat foods in their natural state as often as possible. Whole grain bread, pasta, turkey, and chicken all contain tryptophan. Thereby reducing cravings, by easing depression, and you will stay fuller longer.

Tyrosine for Weight Loss, and as an appetite suppressant

Tyrosine is an amino acid that is helpful in numerous applications. Tyrosine is the precursor for adrenaline, and the neurotransmitters norepinephrine, and dopamine. Adrenaline gives us energy. Dopamine induces a feeling of "everything is great". Tyrosine also regulates metabolism, as well as increases it, and helps suppress appetite as well. By binding with iodine, produces active thyroid hormone.

So, helpful with low energy, weight loss, hypothyroidism, as well as depression.

Tyrosine is found in the following foods: Almonds, avocados, dairy, pumpkin seeds, and sesame seeds. To aid in weight loss, increase the consumption of these foods.

Aminos are not for everyone. Anyone taking an MOA, or anti depressants, those under the age of 18, and any one taking a thyroid hormone medication, as well as those with a history of liver, or kidney problems, should not take any AMINO, as this is where aminos are metabolized. As tyrosine increases adrenaline, any one with a history of seizures, anxiety, or panic attacks, heart disease, should consult their health care provider, before proceeding with this supplement

In Conclusion

Since contracting Lupus, I have utilized many of the supplements, and protocols mentioned in my articles. Start with a good foundation. A good multi vitamin, no iron, D3, B12, and an Omega 3 fatty acid. Choose either a gummy, capsule, liquid, or quick dissolve formula. Hard pressed pills, aren't utilized as effectively. Improve diet, exercise, drinking plenty of filtered water, and fresh air are a solid foundation to maintain, or improve health. I have maintained my weight since contracting Lupus, 110 pounds, utilizing the recommendations above.

Music, Creativity, Art, and Aroma are also very healing. Creativity includes cooking. Trying new recipes, new Flavors, reading, aroma, rewarding the senses, and mind.

15 minutes a day of music, improves moods, and restores mental health. Most effective was Upbeat, and positive, as well as Jazz. Proven by science.

Add one supplement for a specific disease, or condition. If there is a reaction, discontinue use. The last supplement that was added, will be the culprit of the reaction. Always check for interactions, and side affects before starting any supplement, or therapy.
