Help for Gingivitis, Plaque, and Cold Sores. As well as HPV, Tooth Decay, and Natural Anti Inflammatory agents

Periodontal disease affects about 75% of the American population. The symptoms include red swollen gums, gums that bleed, constant bad breath, and dry mouth. It is caused by plaque, that forms, and sticks to the teeth. Sometimes with pain, and sometimes without.

Problems in the mouth are usually associated with a vitamin deficiency, infection, and dry mouth.

Bleeding gums imply a vitamin C deficiency, or scurvy.

Receding gums are a sign of Coq10 deficiency. As well as a possibility of infection. It is best to see a Dentist if they are swollen, and inflamed. Co q 10 has been found to be very effective in the treatment of gingivitis, over a 6 month period. Taken orally, and applied directly to the gums.

Vitamin A is also healing to gum tissue. Present in colorful fruits, and vegetables, Vitamin A can be very toxic taken above 10,000 IU. So, do not exceed this amount, natural beta carotene would be a better choice.

Other Recommendations include the following:

Grapefruit seed extract as a rinse. Found to be just as effective as Listerine in fighting plaque, and gingivitis, without the alcohol content. It is also an anti infective, a natural antibiotic, anti microbial, and anti fungal. (which is what plaque is). 1 to 2 drops in 1-2 ounces of water. Swish around in mouth twice a day, it can be spit out, or swallowed. Do not use if you are currently taking a prescription, or over the counter medication, as it has been known to increase dosages of said medicine. Never use full strength, must always be diluted.

Aloe Vera gel may be applied to swollen gums, to help with swelling, and pain.

Clove Oil may be applied to gums, or tooth for pain relief. Very effective. If you have a tooth ache go to a dentist, please. This is just a remedy used until you can see one.

Other recommendations include pycnogenol as an antioxidant, and for inflammation, 50mg. It increases the activity of the immune system, thereby fighting the infection that causes periodontal disease. If you have an auto immune disease, it would be best to avoid this supplement. It interacts with immune suppressant drugs, such as steroids, among many others. Best to speak to a pharmacist, or physician, before proceeding with this supplement, if you have this condition. Other uses have included other inflammatory conditions, and have found good results, instead of NSAIDS, and antiinflammatory drugs.

Green tea has also been recommended by many as a mouth rinse, or for prevention of tooth decay. No conclusive trials have been found to date. There are many other healthful benefits, such as weight loss, parkinsons, headaches, and HPV taken in a dose of 200mg daily. For HPV, Green tea capsules, 200mg daily, along with green tea ointment, applied 3 times a day, by prescription only. Speak to your doctor, in clinical trials, very effective.

Other helpful recommendations for oral health.

Tom's Natural toothpaste. Contains a natural calcium base, myrrh, and propolis, very healing. Many chronic mouth conditions have been linked to sodium laurel sulfate, an additive in many tooth pastes, and mouth washes. If you have a mouth condition, it might just be an additive that is adding to the problem. Among these conditions are burning mouth, strange sensations, as well as decreased taste. (also a zinc deficiency)

For canker sores or cold sores, applying coconut oil has been helpful for many. They are caused by the herpes virus, that you carry at all times. Stress, unbalanced hormones, or an over abundance of arginine containing foods usually set off an episode of canker, and cold sores. Applying Lysine ointment has been very helpful for many. Arginine, and Lysine have a see saw effect. When arginine is high, then lysine is low, thereby triggering a sore. High arginine foods include chocolate, dairy products, peanuts, and oats to name a few. Best to avoid these foods during an out break.

Excerpt from Pub Med 2008:

A significant reduction in interproximal gingivitis was also noted for EO mouthrinses EO= Essential Oils. Example Grape fruit seed extract, or coconut oil.

Similar results were seen for the effects on plaque with a decrease in total plaque in favour of EO mouth rinse.

My Lupus Journey

I have utilized many of the supplements, and Protocol mentioned above, in the treatment of Lupus. An auto immune disease, that affects many systems, including mouth sores. I used a combination of a daily rinse with grapefruit seed extract, 1 drop in 1 ounce of water, and coconut oil, on lesions. I contracted the condition 20 years ago, after an allergic reaction to Augmentin. Prescribed for a severe sore throat, three antibiotics in one pill.

Among the most effective for me was magnesium, D3, and flax seed oil. D3 acts as a hormone in the body, and regulates immune function. Magnesium to ease pain, and muscle spasms. D3 to calm the immune system. Flaxseed oil, to help regulate hormones, and clear brain fog. Olive leaf, and grapefruit seed extract, as an anti infective. Cycling through each, one month at a time. Do not take both, as it is too strong. Choose 1 for each month. Taken for as long as infection is present. I ran a low grade fever for two years. A sign of infection.

Juicing was also beneficial, with fresh fruits, and vegetables. Adding more protein with yogurt, nuts, and seeds.

GABA, for anxiety, as needed.

There is no cure for Lupus, mine is currently in remission. I have experienced flares, when I don't take care of myself, but never as bad as the initial phase. I still maintain a basic supplement plan. A multi vitamin, no iron, D3, B12, and curcumin, as needed for pain. Sage tea if I have had a stressful day, very calming, helps with insomnia.
